The Last Calendar

When the current cycle of the Maya Long Count calendar concluded on 21 December 2012, the world was supposed to come to an end. Of course, this was hardly the first time the planet’s demise had been prophesied. And so in late 2011, we offered our doomed readers a guide to the brief time that remained. This oversized wall calendar, featuring artworks by Bigert & Bergström illustrating twelve methods of divination, ignored the familiar holidays in favor of more than sixty significant dates in the history of apocalyptic prophecy. Starring comets, aliens, floods, returning messiahs, and more, The Last Calendar was designed to be a companion for all the days of 2012, and ended on the same day the world did (not)—21 December 2012.
