Sina Najafi, editor-in-chief of Cabinet, was invited to moderate a panel in conjunction with the 2004 Biennial. Curator Debra Singer invited exhibiting artists Tom Burr, Christian Holstad, and Jim Hodges to discuss the critical and creative uses of this much-maligned sentiment. In their work, these artists draw on personal memories and artistic icons to evoke new modes of expression, protest, and longing.
