Stamp Book Information

Resources

Below you will find some resources we’ve compiled to serve as stimulus for further research for artists interested in submitting a proposal for our forthcoming “Book of Stamps.” They are to be taken as neither authoritative nor as constraints upon your own work:

— A Semi-Comprehensive Guide to Stamps: Official and Unofficial can be found as a Word document here.

— Images of artist postal stamps can be found here.

— Images of foreign postal stamps can be found here.

— Images of US postal stamps can be found here.

Additional FAQ not addressed in the original call for proposals

Q. What are the dimensions of book?
A. We have not yet decided on the size of the book or on the size of the individual stamps. It is certain, however, that the stamps will be perforated along straight lines. We cannot afford curved cuts or individual dye-cuts made into the stamps.
For the proposals, please assume that the stamps will be roughly the size of a regular stamp and that there will be roughly 40–60 of them on each page. Your proposals should be clear in terms of concept but we are not expecting more than that.

Q. How do you define “emerging”?
A. We cannot answer this very good question! Any definition (based on age, number of shows, etc) struck us as too constrictive. We are therefore going to open this term as loosely as possible, and we encourage you to do the same. If you feel that you are an emerging artist in some way, you are!

Thanks!
