Due to an inexplicably widespread and intense interest on the part of Cabinet readers to visit a desolate half-acre plot of arid scrubland in the middle of the New Mexican desert, we decided to compile a list of travel tips to the site, beginning with directions.
How to get there:
Cabinetlandia is located 10 miles east of the town of Deming in Luna County, New Mexico, off Interstate 10 heading east. This is approximately 240 miles from Albuquerque, NM, 110miles from El Paso, TX, 320 miles from Phoenix, AZ, and about 36 miles from Mexico.
From Deming heading EAST:
- Head East from Deming on Pine St. which becomes Route 549.
- Approx. 10 miles outside Deming, turn LEFT onto Lewis Flats Road (Luna County B041).
- Pass dairy farm and 3 sets of gates. Take the overpass over Highway 10.
- At the end of the overpass, turn immediately RIGHT on first DIRT road (parallel to Hwy 10).
- When you reach the end of that road turn RIGHT (toward Hwy 10).
- Take your first LEFT (parallel to Hwy 10).
- When you reach the end of that road turn RIGHT (toward Hwy 10).
- Turn RIGHT on the THIRD dirt road at a cross roads.
- About 200 yards down the road, the Cabinet postbox and Library should be on your LEFT.
From Las Cruces heading WEST:
- Take Hwy 10 West from Las Cruces.
- Exit Route 549 West toward Deming.
- Approx. 10 miles outside Deming, turn RIGHT onto Lewis Flats Road (Luna County B041).
- Pass dairy farm and 3 sets of gates. Take the overpass over Highway 10.
- At the end of the overpass, turn immediately RIGHT on first DIRT road (parallel to Hwy 10). - When you reach the end of that road turn RIGHT (toward Hwy 10).
- Take your first LEFT (parallel to Hwy 10).
- When you reach the end of that road turn RIGHT (toward Hwy 10).
- Turn to the RIGHT on the THIRD dirt road.
- About 200 yards down the road, the Cabinet postbox and Library should be on your LEFT.
When visiting please be wary of rattlesnakes, scorpions, dehydration, sunstroke, sunburn, buried uranium, and flash floods. Cordelia Rose, co-builder of a labyrinth on Cabinetlandia, recommends that visitors “always use a shod foot to move anything they want to pick up or open before they touch it.”

Cabinetlandia is a half-acre rectangle: The length of the sides are 183 ft. in length by 120 ft. width.
How to Contribute to the Library:
The Library will periodically need to be updated with the most current issues. Some maintenance on the site might also be of use due to environmental wear and tear. If you are planning a trip and would like to help in either of these regards, don't hesitate to contact Cabinet to see if anything needs to be done. Also feel free to fix of your own accord, any unforseen damages you might encounter, restock the snack bar with non-perishables, and so forth.
