Cover Story
The Lockheed XFV-1, considered one of the worst aircraft ever designed. Commissioned by the US Navy in 1951, the XFV-1 was meant to allow vertical take-off and landing. After tests, it was thought imprudent to ever try this. For example, landing the plane required the pilot to look over his shoulder as he backed down. The prototype was scrapped in 1955.
