Cover Story

Model printed by a 3D SLS printer from a 3D scan of a crime scene produced using a Leica Geosystems LIDAR scanner. Such scanners—increasingly used by police and war crime investigators for forensic documentation—produce digital 2D models that can also be used to create 3D versions. The scene here is drawn from an archive of police scans held by Leica Geosystems. For privacy reasons, the victim (who presumably lay where the figures are gathered) was deleted from the file before its release; no further details were made available.
