Summer 2014
Cover Story
The Spanish text reads: “From the offices of Cabinet, we invoked the Virgin of Guadalupe to save the current issue of our magazine from a serious accident, when the boat on which it was traveling from Antwerp to New York was attacked by a terrible sea monster, and thus here as proof of our eternal gratitude we dedicate this ex-voto. Gowanus Canal, Brooklyn, September 2014.” Ex-voto painted by Daniel Vilchis, and photographed by Lake Verea. Our enormous thanks to James Oles, without whose help this cover would not exist. Thanks also to Amelia Stein. For more on how the cover came to be, see “Kiosk” in this issue.
